Instrument Rating (IR)
The Instrument Rating (IR) enables pilots to fly solely by reference to on-board instruments, without external visual reference, which is essential in adverse weather conditions (IMC - Instrument Meteorological Conditions). This qualification is necessary to navigate according to Instrument Flight Rules (IFR) and to fly safely in reduced visibility environments.

IR SE (Single Engine) training
The single-engine instrument rating allows pilots to use on-board instruments to navigate safely in IFR conditions, but is limited to single-engine aircraft. This rating is often the first step for a pilot wishing to obtain the IR and fly in IFR conditions with a simpler aircraft, making it easier to learn basic instrument flight procedures.
Ideal for pilots wishing to improve their safety and flexibility in flight while using a single-engine aircraft, with less costly training.
IR ME (Multi Engine) training
The multi-engine instrument rating is designed for pilots of multi-engine aircraft. It includes specific training in the management of additional engines, emergency procedures in the event of engine failure during instrument flight, and managing the increased workload in multi-engine aircraft. It is often required for those wishing to fly commercial aircraft or progress to professional-level qualifications.
Required to fly commercial aircraft and progress to airline pilot careers, enabling you to manage complex, multi-engine flights.
Training objectives
The objectives of the course are to :
Mastering instrument flying To train pilots to fly using only on-board instruments for navigation, approach and manoeuvres in low visibility conditions.
Improving flight safety Instrument flying is essential for safe navigation in adverse weather conditions, such as clouds, fog or rain.
Expanding skills and autonomy The IR rating allows pilots to operate in controlled environments and outside Visual Flight Rules (VFR) conditions, paving the way for more flexible flying and the pursuit of advanced qualifications.

Frequently asked questions
Answers to the most frequently asked questions.
Is IR valid for life?
No, the IR qualification must be renewed every year a flight test with a certified examiner. This test assesses IFR skills to ensure that the pilot remains fit to fly in instrument conditions.
Can I use the IR qualification in all countries?
An IR rating obtained in an EASA country is recognised in other EASA countries. For flights outside this region, a conversion or addition may be required according to local regulations.
