Class Rating Instructor (CRI)

The CRI qualification (Class Rating Instructor) is a certification that allows pilots to teach on a specific type or class of aircraft. It is intended for pilots who wish to become instructors for specific aircraft, such as single-engine or multi-engine piston aircraft, and pass on their knowledge and skills to other pilots.

Training objectives

Enable pilots to become instructors for class ratings, particularly multi-engine or single-engine aircraft. RNCP30080

Target audience

Experienced pilots wishing to teach class qualification.

Course duration

- Theory: 10 a.m.
- Practical information : 7 hours.

Prerequisites

- Valid CPL or ATPL licence.
- Valid class rating (single-engine or multi-engine).
- Have accumulated at least 300 flying hours, including 30 hours on the type of aircraft concerned.

1. Flight Instruction Techniques

  • Mastery of teaching methods adapted to in-flight teaching.

  • Ability to demonstrate and supervise manoeuvres specific to the class of aircraft concerned.

2. Specific technical knowledge

  • In-depth understanding of the systems and performance of the class of aircraft being taught.

  • Regular updates on technological and regulatory developments.

3. Safety and Risk Management

  • Application of safety procedures specific to the class of aircraft.

  • Ability to anticipate and manage in-flight emergencies.

4. Assessment of Student Performance

  • Ability to objectively assess the skills of student pilots.

  • Providing constructive feedback to encourage continuous improvement.

5. Communication and Relationships

  • Developing effective communication skills with students.

  • Managing interactions in situations of stress or heavy workload.

Detailed programme:

  • Techniques for teaching classroom procedures.

  • Specific aircraft performance management.

  • Practical exercises with students.

  • Theoretical and practical assessment by a DGAC examiner.
